What is an uninterruptible power supply (UPS)?
An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) helps prevent sudden shutdowns, data loss, and hardware damage by providing backup power when your main electricity fails. For home users, a UPS can protect desktop PCs, gaming consoles, and smart home devices from unexpected power cuts.
Do you need an uninterruptible power supply?
To protect your likely expensive investment, an uninterruptible power supply is integral. This applies especially to areas that suffer from frequent power outages, particularly rural areas, extreme climates, or places with bad power grids. In order to buy the right UPS, however, you'll need to make sure that some basic requirements are met.
What voltage can an UPS withstand?
The UPS shall withstand a 25 kV pulse without damage and with no disturbance or adverse effect to the critical load. Efficiency: The UPS efficiency shall be greater than 99% over the range of 10 to 100% load. UPS modules shall be capable of being paralleled to increase system power levels or to provide redundant power.
Does an ups need to be de-rating?
The uninterruptible power supply (UPS) shall not require de-rating when supporting a leading power factor load of 0.9 or greater. Operating input voltage range: +10%, -15% of average nominal input voltage without battery discharge.
Are UPS energy-using products?
However, UPS are not currently defined as an energy-using product in the Regulations. On August 5, 2016, the United States Department of Energy (U.S. DOE) issued a notice of proposed rulemaking, which was intended to add UPS to the scope of battery chargers and introduce energy efficiency standards.
