This will account for 1.7% of total electric power sources in that year. Following enforcement of the new law in April, 2019, movement toward the expansion of offshore wind power generation started to advance.

The Japan Wind Power Association (JWPA) acknowledges the country’s immense potential. It has set the ambitious goal of increasing capacity to 140 GW by 2050 from just 5 GW today.

The Government of Japan has set a project formation target for offshore wind power generation of 30 million to 45 million kW by 2040. To achieve this target, we need to expand the areas subject to the installation of offshore wind generation facilities to the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) of Japan.
